Plot summary
Ranchhod Rai Patel (Paresh Rawal) is a self-made Gujarati man who migrated to the US and became a successful real-estate tycoon. He is very proud of his culture and his two daughters, Namrata and Ritu. He arranges a marriage for Namrata with Prem, a wealthy and professional Patel man. Ritu (Kim Sharma), a doctor, informs him that she has also found her soulmate, Sunder Kapoor (Jimmy Sheirgill), who is part-Punjabi and part-Madrasi and does not belong to the Patel community. Ranchhod is shocked and angry and decides to test Sunder to see if he is worthy of his daughter.
Sunder arrives at Ranchhod's house with a gift of a cow, which annoys Ranchhod. He also learns that Sunder is not a doctor, but a nurse, and that he has lied about his family background. Ranchhod tries to humiliate Sunder in various ways, such as making him drink alcohol, challenging him to a cricket match, and accusing him of stealing his money. Sunder tries to impress Ranchhod with his honesty, sincerity and love for Ritu, but fails miserably. He also faces trouble from Natwar (Johnny Lever), Ranchhod's loyal servant, who tries to sabotage his relationship with Ritu.
Things get worse when Sunder accidentally sets fire to Ranchhod's house and injures his cow. Ranchhod disowns him and forbids Ritu from seeing him. Sunder decides to leave, but Ritu convinces him to stay and fight for their love. She also reveals that she is pregnant with his child. Sunder gathers courage and confronts Ranchhod, telling him that he loves Ritu more than anything and that he will not give up on her. He also tells him that he respects his culture and values, but he cannot change who he is. He asks Ranchhod to accept him as his son-in-law or lose his daughter forever.
Ranchhod realizes that Sunder is a good man who truly loves Ritu and that he has been unfair to him. He apologizes to Sunder and gives his blessing to their marriage. He also reconciles with Prem, who turns out to be Sunder's friend and was helping him win over Ranchhod. The film ends with Ranchhod happily dancing at Ritu and Sunder's wedding.

Reception
The film received mixed reviews from critics. Rediff wrote "An inexperienced star cast, barring Rawal and Johnny Lever (minus his trademark funny oneliners), lack of crisp humor and engaging screenplay are some of the immediate flaws that go against KHDBB. This movie has everyone doing their own thing, almost". Bollywood Hungama wrote "The writers seem to have borrowed from the tried and tested stuff, which explains why the narrative does not hold your attention as the drama unfolds. Even the direction leaves a lot to be desired. The story telling is far from convincing". Deccan Herald wrote "The script is weak, the supporting cast flounders and the story is far-fetched, even by our filmi standards, so dont expect Paresh Rawal to carry this one forward."
